JOSS WHEDON THROWS SHADE AT 'AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.': Joss Whedon isn't totally on board with the changes made to the Marvel universe with ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. -- mainly because of the resurrection Agent Coulson who was killed in the first Avengers film. The director explained to Mental Floss, "A lot of people come back in The Winter Soldier. It's a grand Marvel tradition. Bucky was supposed to die. And the Coulson thing was, I think, a little anomalous just because that really came from the television division, which is sort of considered to be its own subsection of the Marvel universe. As far as the fiction of the movies, Coulson is dead." Joss added, "But I have to say, watching the first one with my kids --I had not watched the first one since it came out -- and then watching it with my kids and watching Coulson die but thinking 'Yeah, but I know that he kind of isn't.' it did take some of the punch out of it for me. Of course, I spent a lot of time making sure he didn't. And at the time it seemed inoffensive, as long as it wasn't referenced in the second movie, which it isn't. There's a thing where you can do that so many times and there's nothing at stake. But it's difficult because you're living in franchise world -- not just Marvel, but in most big films -- where you can't kill anyone, or anybody significant. And now I find myself with a huge crew of people and, although I'm not as bloodthirsty as some people like to pretend, I think it's disingenuous to say we're going to fight this great battle, but there's not going to be any loss. So my feeling in these situations with Marvel is that if somebody has to be placed on the altar and sacrificed, I'll let you guys decide if they stay there."

Censoring slave ownership may not have been the only issue with Ben Affleck's episode of PBS' Finding Your Roots. His mother, Chris Affleck, recently spoke with Daily Mail and revealed that the episode actually got some other details wrong -- specifically the fact that she was a freedom rider in 1964.

Host Henry Louis Gates Jr. told Ben during the episode, "A lynch mob made up of members of the Klan and the local sheriff’s department pulled over three of Ben's mom's fellow activists. This is not some abstract threat. The Klan actually murdered these three Freedom Riders. And your mother was there at that time."

  • Chris told Daily Mail, "I supported what they did. People have incorrectly said I was a member, which embarrasses me because I wasn't as good as they were." She also discussed their slave-owning ancestor saying, "I wasn't surprised to find that my family had used black people as slaves. It makes sense. It was all on my side of the family because my parents were from Georgia and Mississippi and many rich white people from southern states would use people in this way. I know in my heart that it was wrong, but I had no exact knowledge until now. But I am not surprised or shocked, although it doesn’t make you feel good at all."
  • PBS is currently conducting an internal review regarding the production of the episode.

Former Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Damon Dash lost custody of his two daughters last week to his ex-wife, Rachel Roy. He was granted supervised visitation and Roy's restraining order against Dash was also granted. Well Dash, who was accused of being on drugs around his children, isn't taking the legal loss without a fight. On Thursday, April 23th, he filed a summons in New York Supreme Court against Roy alleging grossly mismanaging of their fashion business, Royale Etenia.

  • Dash is expected to file the full complaint shortly but he's alleging that Roy breached fiduciary duties, breached a contract and committed conversion arising from her handling of the fashion company they founded together in 2009. He also alleges she interferred with cash distributions to him.
  • Dash is seeking $2.5 million in damages. He's also suing a third party, Topson Downs of California, for $2.5 million for allegedly mismanaging the intellectual property of their company.
  • Via Instagram, Dash said, "I been looking the other way for years but taking my children's money to buy shoes and car services for a company you didn't put up a dollar for and not letting me see my kids because I'm not alright with it is the most distasteful tacky thing a person can do . . . I thought I had Bergdorf Goodman but ended up with Macy's . . . I'm not even mad it's just business at this point it's just terrible what money and the perception of it does to people that will never have it . . . they will even spend their children's money on it...#mainlandmentality and and told yall I was gonna get at tops n downs for being #culturevultures and still #InvestInWomen."

BODYGUARD CLAIMS HE BOUGHT DRUGS FOR CHRIS EVANS AND OTHER STARS: A bodyguard named Leonard Taylor who was working for club owner Barry Mullineaux is suing his former boss over "emotional abuse" he allegedly suffered when he was forced to buy drugs for celebrities. The lawsuit reads, "I was asked to buy cocaine for celebrities that were coming to the club. Mr. Mullineaux would get the money from the cash register. SOPHIA BUSH'S EX-BOYFRIEND DIES IN NEPAL: Chicago PD star Sophia Bush took to social media over the weekend to mourn the death of her ex-boyfriend, Dan Fredinburg, in the Nepal earthquake which has taken the lives of over 2,500 people. She wrote on Instagram on Saturday (April 25th,) "There are no adequate words. Today I find myself attempting to pick up the pieces of my heart that have broken into such tiny shards, I'll likely never find them all. Today I, and so many of my loved ones, lost an incredible friend. Dan Fredinburg was one-of-a-kind. Fearless. Funny. A dancing robot who liked to ride dinosaurs and chase the sun and envision a better future for the world. His brain knew how to build it. His heart was constantly evolving to push himself to make it so. He was one of my favorite human beings on Earth. He was one of the great loves of my life. He was one of my truest friends. He was an incredible brother, a brilliant engineer, and a damn good man. I'm devastated and simultaneously so deeply grateful to have known and loved him, and to have counted him as one of my tribe. I was so looking forward to our planned download of "all the things" when he got home. I am crushed that I will never hear that story. I am crushed knowing that there are over 1,000 people in Nepal suffering this exact feeling, knowing that they too will never hear another tale about an adventure lived from someone that they love. Disasters like this are often unquantifiable, the enormity is too much to understand. Please remember that each person who is now gone was someone's Dan. Please remember that our time on this Earth is not guaranteed. Please tell those you love that you do. Right now. This very minute. And please send a kiss to the sky for my friend Dan. His energy is so big and so bright, and it's all around us, so put some love toward him today. And then hug your loved ones again. #goodbyesweetfriend #savetheice #Nepal #AdventureswithDAN" Sophia and Dan broke up in April of 2014.
