        The Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce released the names of individuals and businesses nominated for the various civic awards at its annual banquet next Thursday.

        Here are the nominees:


For Ville Platte Woman of the Year: Sharon Fontenot, grants coordinator with the City of Ville Platte, Susie Lemoine, outreach director with the Evangeline Parish Public Library and Jennifer Vidrine, Mayor of Ville Platte. Last year’s Woman of the Year was Mable Forman.


For Ville Platte Man of the Year- Dr. William Buller, local veterinarian; Curley Dossman, retired educator and former Ville Platte City Councilman;  Greg  Fontenot with the Viet Nam Veterans;  Barry Giglio, owner of the Pigstand Restaurant;  Hillary Hill, retired Postal Service Worker affiliated with the Ville Platte VFW;  J.D. Soileau, President of the Viet Nam Veterans of America Chapter; and Dr. Jerry Veillon, local dentist. Last year’s Man of the Year was Coach Wallace Tate.


The nominations for Business Person of the Year are: Jennifer Walker with Slap Ya Mama; Bobby Dardeau with the Bonnes Nouvelles; Mark Sullentrop, Facility Manager with Cabot Corporation; Terryl Fontenot with T&J Ford; and Diana Reed with State Farm Insurance.


The nominations for Business of the Year: Ville Platte Gazette, Evangeline Bank and Trust, the Pigstand Restaurant, Laville Funeral Home, Cameron International, KVPI, Walker and Sons and Mercy Regional Medical Center.


The annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet is scheduled for Thursday May 5 at 6:00pm. Guest speaker will be well known Cajun Comedian Murray Conque. Tickets are available now by contacting the chamber office at 363-1878.

The Louisiana Swamp Pop Museum operated by the City of Ville Platte is open to the public every Friday and Saturday from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Come view the amazing artifacts, photos, records, Wall of Fame and hear the music. Admission charge is $3 adults, $2 seniors and $1 for children under 12. The museum is located on Northwest Railroad Avenue.
